This job is a 12-month fixed-term fellowship at Ochsner Health with additional remote collaboration with the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP). The Pediatric Pharmacy Fellow role is specialized in medication safety with a focus on pediatric practice. The fellowship provides structure training and professional development opportunities in research, education, and advocacy to reduce medication errors, improve patient safety, and build system-level strategies that support safe pediatric care.   • Conducts proactive risk assessments and gap analyses of pediatric medication safety practices across the organization.
  • Develops and implement strategies to systematize and improve pediatric pharmacy practices.
  • Communicates with healthcare practitioners, patients, and caregivers regarding medication safety related inquiries.
  • Reviews, categorizes, and analyzes medication error reports; summarizes findings and provides recommendation for improvement.
  • Designs and evaluates proactive risk assessments for high-alert and specialty pediatric medications.
  • Collaborates with ISMP on pediatric-focused safety initiatives, research, and educational projects.
  • Co-precepts and mentors’ pharmacy students or residents during rotation in medication safety.
  • Participates in safety-related projects, system-wide summits, and professional development activities.
  • Prepares and delivers presentations, reports, and educational material on pediatric medication safety.
  • Supports the development of manuscripts or abstracts for peer-revies journals or conferences.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations, and standards.
  • This employer maintains and complies with its Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct, including the immediate reporting of any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors or conduct; patient/employee safety, patient privacy, and/or other compliance-related concerns.
  • Graduate of an accredited College/School of Pharmacy (PharmD).
  • Completion of a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency or 5 years of hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Strong interest in demonstrated commitment to pediatric pharmacy and medication safety.
  • Proficiency in Windows-based applications, and accurate data entry/keyboard skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present complex information clearly.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills to conduct risk assessments, evaluate safety data, and develop solutions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment and to build strong professional relationships.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Professionalism, adaptability, and resilience when addressing sensitive or high-stakes safety issues.
  • PGY2 residency training, with emphasis in pediatric or medication safety.
