Job Summary/Role: Licensed independent nurse practitioner who is responsible for managing primary health care in a pediatric outpatient setting according to state and federal rules and regulations. Implements the nursing standards of care- assessment of health status, diagnosis, development of the plan of care and treatment, implementation of treatment plan and evaluation of patient status. The Nurse Practitioner is a registered nurse with a specialized advanced practice educational degree (MSN or DNP) and clinical competency to provide health and medical care for the pediatric populations in the primary care setting.
Requirements
- Must be a Nurse Practitioner who is certified and licensed to practice in the state of Colorado.
- Abides by the rules and regulations set forth by the Colorado Board of Nursing (DORA) and the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB)
- Abides by the Standards and Practice of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners set forth by the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program with a Master’s of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP)
- Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Colorado
- Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Colorado
- Current Nurse Practitioner certification in appropriate specialty
- DEA licensure, NPI for billing
- Current provider certification in BLS as required by the facility
- Strong computer skills
Responsibilities
- Provide direct independent age appropriate history and physicals for acute, well, complex and chronically ill children, evaluate outcomes, consult with other providers/specialists as needed and adjust nursing care processes to ensure optimal patient care.
- Performs, orders and evaluates results of lab, x ray, and diagnostic tests as indicated and monitors effectiveness of interventions
- Performs procedures according to EBP, training and certification.
- Identifies patient/family needs, develops quality plan of care, and ensures delivery of quality services to meet those needs for all patients and their families.
- Works in collaboration with multidisciplinary team members by providing care for the pediatric patient and family.
- Prescribes or recommends prescriptions for medications and other treatments according to established federal and state requirements.
- Participates in problem solving teams or provides suggestions to management to improve overall quantity/quality of care and day to day operations.
- Maintains accuracy in documentation in the medical records.
- Facilitates staff, patient and family decision making by providing appropriate educational tools that are at the appropriate reading level.
- Provides coverage for other providers patients, when needed
- Meets standards of practice as outlined by the appropriate credentialing and licensing organization.
- Maintains professional affiliations and enhances professional growth and development to keep abreast of the latest trends and evidence based practice in pediatric care.
- Participates in the clinical education of the Nurse Practitioner students.
- Ability to do procedures within the comfort level and experience. Able to do simple suturing, gluing, splinting, nexplanons- certified through Merck.
- Assure positive communication with the nurses, physicians, patients and families.
