About The Position

The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner provides quality, comprehensive out-patient primary health care services to the Center's pediatric patients consulting with supervising physician and abiding by appropriate clinical protocols. Reports to the Lead Pediatrician regarding clinical issues and activities related to the delivery of pediatric medical care.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree from an accredited university in a Nurse Practitioner Program.
  • Board Certified PNCB, AANP or ANCC required.
  • Previous work experience as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner preferred.
  • Must have current unrestricted license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner from the Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Annual continuing medical education as required by board specialty.
  • Must be registered and have current DEA.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish highly preferred.
  • Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

  • Examines, diagnoses, treats and/or refers pediatric patients assigned to physician's panel, on an out-patient basis.
  • Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions consulting with supervising physician.
  • Maintains a problem-oriented health record for each patient seen in accordance with the Center's established Health Informatic Management policies and procedures.
  • Completes thorough documentation of each patient's visit in the electronic health record and ensures encounters are closed within 24 hours.
  • Assures continuity of care by providing medical services on a timely basis as per Clinic schedule.
  • Refers patients for appropriate specialty care services, lab and x-ray and any other ancillary services that are appropriate for patient's management and care.
  • Reviews all lab and x-ray reports for patients under his/her care on a timely basis and makes medical management decisions appropriately.
  • Maintains appropriate productivity standards of specialty as established by the Center.
  • Provides excellent internal/external customer service via telephone, fax or face-to-face contact to assist patients with their health care needs.
  • Trains and mentors medical students and clinical support staff engaged in activities and procedures, as appropriate.
  • Follows established departmental and clinic policies, procedures, and objectives; continuous quality improvements objectives and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
  • Participates in specified health promotion, education and/or prevention programs as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
