About The Position

Children’s Cardiology, a subsidiary of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, is comprised of more than 60 pediatric cardiologists providing comprehensive services for patients from before birth to age 21 who have acquired or congenital heart disease. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant provides direct care and management of children in the outpatient cardiology clinic setting and inpatient hospital setting with a supervising physician.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or specific experience in pediatric nursing.
  • Master’s degree in nursing - PNP or FNP.
  • NP credentialing by ANCC or AANP.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a clinical setting or equivalent education, training, and experience in pediatrics.
  • Experience in pediatric cardiology preferred.
  • Current Board Certification required.
  • Current Georgia Registered Nurse license required.
  • Current CPR certification required; PALS preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required.
  • Must have general proficiency in computer skills.
  • Must possess general nursing knowledge as well as critical thinking, judgment and assessment skills.
  • Position requires ability to identify and report unusual or problematic circumstances in clinic.
  • Travel required to other South GA clinic locations up to once per week.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in pediatric cardiology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Taking general/cardiology histories on new and established patients.
  • Performing comprehensive physical exams on pediatric patients.
  • Reading electrocardiograms.
  • Establishing treatment plans for specific diagnoses for new and established patients.
  • Prescribing cardiac medications (under supervision of attending physician).
  • Ordering and interpreting labs and appropriate tests.
  • Performing follow-up calls to patients and parents.
  • Dictating clinic letters and tests to referring physicians.
  • Presenting at pediatric cardiology conferences.
  • Mentoring new staff.
  • Precepting NP/PA/resident students.
  • Independently performing cardiology consultations in the inpatient setting (physician co-signing letters and orders).
  • Performing other job duties and projects as assigned.
