About The Position

The position involves undertaking forensic medical exams of suspected sexual and physical abuse of children and adolescents aged newborn to 17, as ordered by Riverside County law enforcement and/or Child Protective Services. The role includes ordering laboratory work and imaging to assess potential abuse, conducting follow-up medical exams, and performing medical exams of children entering the foster care system.

Requirements

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Active and unrestricted CA licensure as Registered Nurse (RN) and Nurse Practitioner (NP).
  • Nurse Practitioner Furnishing (NPF) license number from the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN).
  • Current board certification as NP by a nationally accredited organization in a population foci.
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate to dispense controlled substances (II-V).
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI).
  • CURES registration.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Two (2) years of experience in child abuse pediatrics, including conducting forensic medical exams for sexual and physical abuse, and the care of children in foster care.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
  • Secures appropriate consents for treatment, medication administration, photography and/or forensic exam.
  • Performs timely, thorough and professional forensic examinations, evidence collection, and documentation as per protocol.
  • Evaluates pregnancy risk and offers prevention as appropriate.
  • Evaluates and treats prophylactically for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) as per protocol.
  • Assesses, documents, and seeks care for injuries noted on forensic exam and reports any findings that may require immediate medical intervention.
  • Performs medical exams of children entering the foster care system.
  • Provides crisis intervention and ongoing support and education to victims and support persons throughout treatment.
  • Provides discharge instructions, follow-up medical care options and referrals.
  • Schedules and performs medical follow-up as per protocol and as needed.
  • Participates in peer review, process improvement and quality review.
  • Maintains annual competencies to conduct forensic evidentiary examinations.
  • Provides expert testimony in court when indicated/subpoenaed.
  • Attends monthly Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings with law enforcement, prosecutors and Child Protective Services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Full Time position with a salary range of $73.63 - $111.85 per hour.
