About The Position

The University of Rochester is seeking a dedicated Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Pediatric Critical Care team, which includes a group of experienced advanced practice providers (APPs). This role will involve providing high-quality care to pediatric patients in our PICU, Pediatric Cardiac Care Center, and sedation service. The PNP/PA will collaborate with pediatric intensivists, cardiologists, surgeons, and other specialists while supporting families through complex medical situations. This role involves clinical evaluation and management of patients, including managing acute and chronic conditions, performing procedures, and performing mild and moderate sedation services. The APP will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to coordinate care and engage in problem solving of complex patient cases. The APP will work to support families of critically ill pediatric patients by providing compassionate communication and explaining treatment plans and addressing concerns. The APP will stay up to date on best practices within pediatric critical care and will participate in the education of students, residents and fellows. The applicant should be highly motivated with excellent clinical skills, sound judgement, and able to work in a high acuity, fast paced environment. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, an enthusiasm for learning, a strong work ethic, the ability to work well in a team-based environment, and excellent critical thinking skills.

Requirements

  • Master's degree as a Nurse Practitioner or completion of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program.
  • Active New York State Registered Nurse license in good standing (for Nurse Practitioners).
  • Active New York State Nurse Practitioner licensure in good standing and current national certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Active New York State Physician Assistant licensure in good standing and current national certification as a Physician Assistant by NCCPA.
  • Demonstrate clinical competence and superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exhibit interpersonal effectiveness and customer relation skills.
  • Possess computer competence and an active desire to learn.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years of relevant experience preferred, but exceptional new graduates will be considered.
