About The Position

This position is for an accomplished pediatric cardiac sonographer passionate about patient care, joining a vibrant, expanding team at Banner Health. Medical imaging is crucial for top-notch patient care. The role requires working in a dynamic, expanding, and fast-paced accredited pediatric echo lab as a registered pediatric cardiac sonographer. Services are offered in both inpatient and outpatient clinic settings across several hospital campuses, including satellite clinics with portable equipment. The role demands travel and last-minute flexibility, with assignments varying based on East or West Valley residency. Responsibilities include performing transthoracic echocardiograms for adult and pediatric patients with basic to complicated congenital heart disease, utilizing a superior understanding of cardiac physiology and illness to ensure detailed preliminary reports and prompt communication of important discoveries. Exams are conducted in acute hospital settings such as operating rooms, cardiac catheter labs, emergency departments, neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, and other inpatient units. Opportunities exist to act as a preceptor for students or new employees and to learn and perform Fetal Echocardiograms and Transesophageal Echocardiograms. The position requires taking holiday and after-hours calls at various hospital locations, strong time management abilities, and outstanding people skills. The role performs echocardiography procedures for diagnosing congenital and acquired heart disease in pediatric and adult congenital heart disease patients, adhering to department/facility policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure optimal patient care across multiple locations.

Requirements

  • Ability to work in a dynamic, expanding, and fast-paced accredited pediatric echo lab as a registered pediatric cardiac sonographer.
  • Traveling and being flexible at the last minute are requirements.
  • Perform Transthoracic echocardiograms for both adult and pediatric patients with basic to complicated congenital heart disease.
  • Superior understanding of cardiac physiology and illness.
  • Ensure that preliminary reports contain detailed information and that important discoveries are communicated promptly.
  • Conduct exams in acute hospital settings, such as the operating room, cardiac catheter lab, emergency department, neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, and other inpatient units.
  • Strong time management abilities.
  • Outstanding people skills.
  • Graduation from an approved school for Cardiac Ultrasound as designated by the AMA and American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine.
  • National certification in the area of specialty from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer in Pediatric Echocardiography (RDCS-PE), or a Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS).
  • Non pediatric certified candidates must complete pediatric certification within 12 - 18 months of hire.
  • BLS certification.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills.

  • Analyze data and solve problems.

Nice To Haves

  • RVT for Vascular certification.
  • RCS for echo certification.
  • Experience working in a clinic or acute care setting within the past 12 months as a Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer.
  • Pediatric externship for a minimum of 6 months.
  • Additional related education and/or experience.

Responsibilities

  • Performs echocardiograms on pediatric patients and adults with congenital heart disease utilizing department specific protocols.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient being served.
  • Records, interrogates, quantifies, and measures both the presence of normal and abnormal anatomy or physiology in a manner consistent with approved standards.
  • Produces high quality images and prepares/presents them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate preliminary reports and documentation.
  • Performs procedures by following and verifying referring providers’ orders.
  • Uses independent judgment and applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures.
  • Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed.
  • Demonstrates professional behavior/conduct in all interactions; fosters teamwork, efficient use of resources and quality patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrates competence in assisting with invasive/interventional procedures in accordance with established practices.
  • Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements and maintenance requirements.
  • Demonstrates the ability to trouble shoot and notifies appropriate personnel to repair or maintain equipment performance.
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors.
  • Adheres to safety policies.
  • Accountable for the ethical, legal, professional and certification responsibilities related to the practice.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of all work information.
  • Assures the efficient operation of workflow of the department.
  • Travel to various facilities may be required.
  • Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and material to ensure non-interruption of services.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
  • Independently performs prescribed procedures in accordance with department/facility policies, procedures and protocols to patients.
  • Act as a preceptor for students or new employees as necessary.
  • Learn and perform Fetal Echocardiograms and Transesophageal Echocardiograms.
  • Take holiday and after-hours calls at various hospital locations.
