About The Position

This one-year, ACGME accredited Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology fellowship at Children’s National Medical Center is designed to provide the necessary knowledge and clinical experience to become an expert in the field of pediatric cardiac anesthesiology. The fellowship will enable the graduate to provide anesthetic care for patients of all ages with congenital heart disease. The program consists of twelve one-month rotations at Children’s National Hospital, allowing the fellow to gain experience in various settings where patients with congenital heart disease receive anesthesia, including the cardiac operating rooms, the cardiac catheterization lab, and the cardiac MRI. Additionally, the program includes rotations in Perfusion, Pediatric Echocardiography, and Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care. As the fellow progresses, they will take on greater responsibility and independence, ultimately qualifying to practice independently and become a leader in the field of Congenital Cardiac Anesthesiology. Academic time will also be allocated for research and scholarly endeavors.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a one-year ACGME-approved pediatric anesthesiology fellowship or equivalent training
  • 2-3 letters of recommendation, including one from the chairman or program director
  • Completion of medical school in the U.S. or ECFMG certification for international medical graduates
  • Ability to obtain a District of Columbia unrestricted medical license prior to starting fellowship training
  • Successful completion of all three steps of the USMLE

Responsibilities

  • Provide anesthetic care for patients with congenital heart disease
  • Participate in twelve one-month rotations

  • Engage in Perfusion, Pediatric Echocardiography, and Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care rotations
