As part of an interdisciplinary team, this position is responsible for providing evaluations, assessments and/or interventions using a behavioral approach, grounded in Applied Behavior Analysis, to optimize full access to care for patients in Hackensack Meridian Children's Health.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Special Education or related human services field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder.
  • Demonstrated experience in the evaluation, development and management of treatment plans for children and adolescents with complex behavioral challenges.
  • Demonstrated experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to demonstrate competence in behavior management skill, instructional skills, oral and written communication, organizational skills and interpersonal relations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst.
  • Licensed to practice in New Jersey.

Responsibilities

  • Consults with patients from early childhood to age 22 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other behavioral health conditions in the pediatric emergency department and in inpatient units who may benefit from behavioral supports to fully access care safely. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams on units to create immediate and short-term behavioral support plans.
  • Member of the response team for acute patients with ASD.
  • Collaborates with inpatient unit teams on discharge planning, with particular emphasis on linkage to community-based behavioral therapy and related resources.
  • Consults with families at the Child Evaluation Center at K Hovnanian Children's Hospital or the Institute for Child Development at the Joseph M Sanzari Children's Hospital to assist patients with navigating healthcare and community-based systems post-diagnosis.
  • Develops and implements resources for HMH Children's Health team members and parents focused on facilitating care in healthcare settings. Resources include, but are not limited to, tip sheets, visual aids, use of technology and videos for teaching and social stories.
  • Collaborates with Child Evaluation Center, Institute for Child Development and HMH Learning and Performance teams to develop, facilitate and maintain didactic education program focused on behavior management in healthcare settings for HM Children's team members. Program should include instruction and behavioral skills training to include modeling, role-play and feedback of specific strategies.
  • Participates in daily Children's Hospital Safety Huddles.
  • Regularly rounds in inpatient and outpatient areas to proactively support staff and maintain open lines of communication.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
