About The Position

This position is responsible for providing acupuncture treatments and for treating patients using tools such as needles and magnetic pellets, and for utilizing manual techniques such as shonishin, acupressure, cupping, shiatsu, qigong and tuina massage to help promote, restore and maintain patient health. Care is provided within a multi-disciplinary team approach to wellness. Essential Functions Verifies medical records including the physician's orders for integrated medicine, which may include acupuncture, reviews their medical file for contraindications/precautions for treatment. Collects medical history and general health and lifestyle information from patient Analyzes physician findings and medical history to make diagnoses according to Oriental Medicine Works with each patient to develop a treatment plan and strategy based on their diagnoses as well as individual needs Explains procedure and discusses individual treatment Inspects area to be treated looking for edema, blisters, and/or rash, and if present, reports issues to physician/nurse before beginning treatment. Provides prescribed treatments as determined by the patient's treatment plan Observes and assesses patient for any unexpected or undesirable physical/emotional reactions. When necessary, suspends treatment, and provides appropriate intervention. Reports adverse reactions to physician/nurse as indicated. Maintains detailed and complete records, health care plans and prognoses. Evaluates treatment outcomes and makes further treatment recommendations as necessary to further promote, restore, or maintain health. Works as a member of a multi-disciplinary team which may include the Lifestyle Medicine & Wellness Center and medical community healthcare team that provides as full complement of services to meet patients' personal health needs

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine
  • Graduate of a school accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM). Education is verified.
  • Current license to practice Acupuncture in the State of Utah.
  • Current certification from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to discuss the scientific basis and commonly used techniques for acupuncture and complementary medical therapies.
