Job Description York School District One Instructional Services TEACHER PHYSICAL EDUCATION Qualifications: · South Carolina Certification as required for the position or eligible for appropriate certification · Bachelor’s Degree · Excellent written and oral communication skills · Success in coaching varied sports · Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate Reports To: Principal Job Goal To develop in each pupil an understanding of the relationship of good body function and exercise; to motivate each pupil to cultivate physical fitness, social and emotional adjustment; to discover and develop talents of pupils in physical achievement and to develop strength, skill, agility, and coordination in individual dual and team activities in accordance with each pupil’s ability. Performance Responsibilities · Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual dual, or team sports, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities. · Works cooperatively with other school personnel. · Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamental of body movement. · Provides individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil to the extent feasible. · Teaches physical education classes for handicapped pupils as necessary. · Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of pupils. · Maintains control of storage and use of school-owned property. · Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas. · Evaluates each pupil’s growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution in team sports. · Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities. · Selects and requisitions equipment and instructional aids. · Maintains required inventory records. · Communicates with parents on pupil progress. · Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day. · Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs. · Additional duties as the administration deems appropriate. · Coaching duties as needed. Specific Job Requirements · Possess and utilize excellent team building skills · Accept delegated responsibilities willingly · Able to work under occasional stress · Demonstrate a high level of initiative in job performance · Communicate effectively with a diverse community Terms of Employment: 190 days per school year plus additional days for coaching; salary and work year to be established by the Board Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Certificated Personnel.
