A non-licensed healthcare provider employed by Erlanger Health System is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of patients under the direction of a licensed nurse. The employee works on the different nursing units within Children's and Women's areas of the hospital areas based on the staffing needs of each nursing unit. Assignments may vary from day to day. The individual must be adept at moving and transporting patients, measuring intake and output, feeding babies, obtaining height and weight, monitoring vital signs, administering baths and other personal care, and point of care testing. The individual must also have the knowledge and the skill to use equipment that is necessary for job performance and patient care. The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The employee must be able to exercise judgment to recognize and identify signs and symptoms that require further evaluation by a licensed nurse. The employee must be able to effectively communicate with customers and team members, be flexible and adapt easily to change. The employee must demonstrate exceptional people skills, the ability to handle complaints and resolve conflict when necessary. PCT's may be used as a PSA (Patient Safety Assistant) at any time. In the Patient Safety Assistant role, they will be responsible for sitting with patients to observe and document behavior. Continuous interaction with patient, visitors/family and hospital staff is a primary function. Must remain with the patient until relieved by another PSA or a hospital staff member. Must be willing to travel between BEH Erlanger, Children's and Erlanger East campuses.
