About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) position at UAB Medicine involves providing essential support in patient care under the direction of registered nurses (RN) and licensed practical nurses (LPN). The role focuses on monitoring vital signs, assisting patients with daily needs, and ensuring a safe and clean environment for patient care. This position is integral to the healthcare team, contributing to the overall patient experience and safety.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED required
• Certified with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within thirty (30) days of date of employment required

Responsibilities

• Assist patient with everyday needs, including bathing, restroom/bedpan assistance, etc.
• Monitor vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respirations, weights, input and outputs)
• Obtain EKGs
• Draw blood and perform finger sticks
• Obtain fluid samples or other specimens for testing
• Assist nursing staff in administering basic treatments
• Notify nursing staff of any issues or concerns
• Keep patient rooms clean and sanitized
• Ensure rooms have adequate patient care supplies
• Assist patients with particular issues or needs
• Provide appropriate emotional support
• Demonstrate an awareness of patient and personal safety
• Work as a part of the health care team
• Successful completion of PCT orientation
• CPR certified within 30 days of employment
