About The Position

General Purpose of Job: The Patient Care Technician assists nurses in providing basic care. Under the supervision of a RN the Patient Care Technician performs specific procedures as trained. Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Associates may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position. Provides basic and technical care to patients as directed by an RN. Performs specific patient procedures and treatments per Hospital guidelines and policies as well as intradepartmental guidelines and policies. Documents care given and patient response in chart as indicated Cleans and maintains equipment and environment. Demonstrates knowledge and use of appropriate equipment and supplies to provide quality patient care and a safe patient environment in the Medical/GYN Clinic and Infusion area. Communicates significant information and changes in patient condition to the RN. Actively participates as a team members. Constructively addresses patient and team issues to ensure quality patient care and a collaborative work environment. Assumes mentor role for new PCTs and MSU students. Assumes responsibility for ongoing education and completion of mandatory requirements. Performs other duties as assigned. Serves as a role model for consistent demonstration of Sparrow Health System's Customer Service Behavioral Standards of Performance, respecting the Privacy and Confidentiality of those we serve. Demonstrates knowledge and respects patient, service provider, organizational confidentiality and HIPPA Security procedures and protocols as defined under the HIPPA Privacy and Security Procedures. Follows established HIPPA privacy procedures when using and/or disclosing protected health information. Maintains, and protects patient's rights under the HIPPA Privacy Standards.

Requirements

  • BCLS.
  • Two years’ experience in outpatient physician practice or equivalent setting required.
  • High school diploma, G.E.D. or successful completion of 12 grades combined with continued enrollment in early college program.
  • Successful completion of Acute Care Nursing Assistant Program OR certified nurse assistant program OR documented completion of Fundamentals of Nursing as a current student in a nursing program OR completion of a medical assistant program OR completion of an EMT or Paramedic program.
  • Successful demonstration of patient lifting, moving and transporting techniques.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively and appropriately communicate with patients, families, physicians and other Hospital associates.
