About The Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) Apprentice position at Texas Health Southwest is designed for individuals who are passionate about healthcare and eager to learn while earning. This role requires participation in a 4-week Apprentice Program, which is mandatory and takes place Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, starting on June 30, 2025. After successful completion of the program, the trainee will transition into a Patient Care Tech role with a posted shift. The position involves working full-time during the night, specifically three 12-hour variable shifts per week, including weekends and holidays. The unit emphasizes work/life balance and offers opportunities for educational and career growth, supported by an engaged leadership team.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required prior to providing independent patient care, maintained quarterly.
  • Possess organizational skills to function in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and good verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Complete a PCT apprenticeship program covering basic patient care skills, patient rights, communication, safety, observation, and reporting.
  • Assist patients in maintaining basic comfort and safety.
  • Deliver high-quality patient care through nursing education, research, and innovations in nursing practice.
