About The Position

Putnam County Hospital is looking for a temporary full-time school nurse at Tzouanakis Intermediate School in Greencastle, IN! This position would cover a maternity leave from March 2026 to the end of the school year in May 2026. Clinical experience and experience in a school setting is preferred, but not required. Job Summary Provides health services in schools. Their goal is to treat student injuries or illnesses and advise students, their parents or guardians, and staff on health issues. School Nurses are trained to support in-person treatment or treatment through telehealth supported by local providers

Requirements

HS Graduate or equivalent, 18+ years of age
1-2 years of related experience
Ability to support medication management for various students
Prior experience and knowledge of health screening and tracking

Nice To Haves

Prior clinical experience in healthcare or school setting preferred but not required
Certified medical assistant certificate

Responsibilities

Providing healthcare to students with acute or chronic health problems
Conducting screenings and writing referrals for health services (e.g. Vision and dental screenings)
Monitoring health plans for students
Support of medication management for students with ongoing health needs
Support and operation of telehealth program to connect students with local providers
Follow the developed health plans for students with chronic illnesses and disabilities
Educate students and staff on healthy habits, such as proper nutrition and hygiene
Keep track of students’ vaccination records
Update students’ medical history
Ensure school environment is safe for children and school staff (e.g. prevention of communicable diseases)
Performs other duties as assigned
