About The Position

The PCB Assembly & Rework Technician performs advanced electronic assembly and precision rework on printed circuit boards used in aerospace and defense systems. In addition to standard assembly work, this role includes troubleshooting, component replacement, wire modifications, and repair of nonconforming hardware in accordance with IPC-7711/7721 rework standards. The technician ensures workmanship meets quality, reliability, and traceability requirements in a controlled manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 3+ years of experience in PCB assembly and rework
  • Proficiency with fine-pitch soldering, desoldering, and hot air rework tools
  • Strong understanding of IPC-A-610 and IPC-7711/7721 standards
  • Ability to interpret drawings, schematics, and rework documentation
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination, focus, and patience for detailed repair work
  • Follow established safety and quality protocols in a fast-paced production/manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Current IPC-A-610 and IPC-7711/7721 certification
  • Experience performing rework on multilayer or high-density PCBs
  • Familiarity with defense and aerospace quality standards (AS9100)
  • Experience using X-ray inspection or automated optical inspection (AOI) equipment
  • Experience supporting prototype or R&D builds

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and rework electronic assemblies and PCBs using soldering, desoldering, and reflow techniques
  • Perform precision component removal and replacement using soldering irons, hot air stations, and microscopes
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, ECOs, and rework instructions
  • Conduct board-level and component-level repairs following IPC-7711/7721 standards
  • Inspect and verify solder joints, component orientation, and repair quality
  • Collaborate with Quality and Engineering to disposition nonconforming assemblies
  • Maintain documentation of rework, deviations, and serial traceability
  • Support prototype builds, engineering changes, and product modifications
  • Follow ESD, FOD, and cleanroom standards to protect sensitive components
  • Provide feedback on recurring rework issues to assist continuous improvement and DFM reviews
  • Train or assist other technicians on rework methods and inspection criteria as needed
