We use state-of-the-art tools, processes, technology, and CORE/Lean principles. Mechanical Engineering’s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, product development, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test and documentation. The Precision Control Actuation Systems (PCAS) department, part of the Hardware Engineering functional organization, is a team of approximately 145 engineers based in Tucson, AZ, and Huntsville, AL. PCAS specializes in developing advanced Control Actuation Systems (CAS), including Aerodynamic Tail Fin and Canard Steering Control Sections, Thrust Vector, Attitude, and Divert Control Systems, as well as Control Surface and Wing Deployment Mechanisms, Stage Separation solutions, Nosecone Ejection Systems, and more. Our work focuses on delivering reliable, affordable and innovative product solutions for land, air, sea, and space. The PCAS department is seeking a motivated Engineering Section Leader with experience in CAS hardware development for our Tucson, AZ facility. What You Will Do This role combines technical oversight, programmatic leadership, and team management responsibilities. As a Section Leader, you will supervise a team of up to 15 engineers, focusing on performance management, career development, and program execution. You will collaborate with the Department Manager and leadership team to achieve PCAS and Mechanical Engineering goals, ensuring the team is aligned with organizational priorities and adequately staffed to meet program requirements.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience
  • 8 years’ experience with technical engineering background, leading teams in the aerospace or government sector
  • Experience working across multiple DoD programs or initiatives.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • DoD Clearance: Secret

Nice To Haves

  • M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Math, or a related science degree
  • Ability to quickly build collaborative networks, empower employees, lead and motivate teams, and foster effective collaboration
  • Proven ability to manage multiple and competing priorities
  • Experience in technical and cost proposal development, technical risk management, and managing cost and schedule requirements

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of 12-15 engineers, providing guidance on career development, performance appraisal, coaching, and training.
  • Oversee CAS product design, production, and technical data package integrity across all program phases.
  • Act as the primary liaison between section members, functional leadership, and supported programs to align technical and programmatic objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Quality, to ensure program success.
  • Ensure adherence to centralized processes, procedures, and technical rigor across the section.
  • Monitor program execution, provide technical oversight, and resolve engineering challenges throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Support staffing needs, headcount planning, and resource allocation for the program.
  • Lead by example, fostering a culture of respect, ethical behavior, and continuous improvement.
  • Represent the section within the directorate, communicating key updates, successes, and challenges to leadership.
