About The Position

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, the PCA/CNA works collaboratively with the health care team to provide outcome/goal-based patient care. This role involves observing and reporting the patient’s response and progress to interventions, and adhering to MercyOne's performance expectations, mission, vision, and values. The position supports the team in identifying patient needs and implementing care plans, assists in the delivery of care, and communicates relevant clinical information to optimize patient outcomes. It also includes performing unit-based functions as assigned and adhering to all safety, infection control, and colleague health policies. The PCA/CNA will communicate and intervene in a manner appropriate to the age of the patient served, covering neonates to geriatrics.

Requirements

  • Verification (by transcript or certification) of successful completion of Nurse Aide I course
  • Successful completion of Nursing Fundamentals course or successful completion of the Competency Test
  • In Home Health must have completed Nurse Aide I course
  • Ability to read, write and understand the English language
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, staff and physicians while performing their job duties
  • Basic language, basic math, basic to intermediate reasoning ability
  • Basic computer skills required
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people
  • Ability to work under pressure and in high stress situation/environment
  • Ability to take direction and work with accountability

Nice To Haves

  • Nurse Aide II-Advanced course is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supports the team in identifying patient needs and implementing the outcome/goal-based plan of care.
  • Assists the patient care team in the delivery of care.

  • Performs unit-based functions as assigned.
  • Adheres to all safety, infection control and colleague health policies and procedures.
  • Using his/her knowledge of the principles of growth and development and related needs, communicates and intervenes in a manner appropriate to the age of the patient served which includes: Birth – 28 days Neonate, 1 – 18 Months Infant, 18 Months – 3 Years Toddler, 3 – 6 Years Preschool-aged, 6 – 12 Years School-aged, 12 – 18 Years Adolescents, 18 – 65 Years Adults, 65+ Years Geriatric.
