About The Position

The PC Specialist is responsible for maintaining, analyzing, troubleshooting, and repairing computer systems, hardware, and peripherals. This role involves documenting, maintaining, upgrading, or replacing hardware and software systems, as well as supporting and maintaining user account information, including rights, security, and systems groups. The specialist is expected to be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field, relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The position requires performing a variety of tasks under general supervision, typically reporting to a project leader or manager. On-call duties may be necessary, and the specialist will work with outside vendors for equipment purchase and repair. Maintaining current knowledge of all PC components, software, and hospital-used printers is essential. The role also includes maintaining accurate IS support database information, assisting in the creation and maintenance of hospital policies and procedures involving PC or IS operations, and creating a preventative maintenance program for PCs and printers. Understanding network configurations required for PCs and printers and working in association with Network Specialists is also part of the job. The specialist will recommend changes/improvements for PCs and printers and design and develop solutions to complex applications problems, system administration issues, or network concerns.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree (AA) AS or Technical degree in networking preferred.
  • 1-3 years experience maintaining a Microsoft domain preferred.
  • Prefer computer networking technical school or experience in a related field required.
  • Understanding of NTFS & share level security.
  • Understanding of disk imaging software.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Outlook & OWA.
  • Understanding of Active Directory.
  • Understanding of the OSI Model.
  • Understanding of a Citrix environment, current Microsoft Operating Systems, TCP/IP and associated ports, PCs & thin clients, printers, and Microsoft Office.
  • Understanding of Server and Desktop Virtualization.
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily performance of computer systems.
  • Answer user inquiries regarding computer software or hardware operation to resolve problems.
  • Set up equipment for employee use, performing or ensuring proper installation of cables, operating systems, or appropriate software.
  • Install and perform minor repairs to hardware, software, or peripheral equipment, following design or installation specifications.
  • Maintain records of daily problems and remedial actions taken, or installation activities.
  • Read technical manuals, confer with users, or conduct computer diagnostics to investigate and resolve problems or to provide technical assistance and support.
  • Confer with staff, users, and management to establish requirements for new systems or modifications.
