About The Position

Farm Bureau Financial Services has an accounting internship opportunity available for individuals to gain accounting experience in the property and casualty insurance industry. What You'll Do: As a PC Accounting Intern, you will be working with and assisting in the financial reporting and analysis for the PC Companies. You will aid in the month-end processes such as preparing loss analytics and updating catastrophe loss metrics, which will ultimately lead to the publication of monthly loss ratios. After month-end, you will help with settlements, individual claim billings, receipts, and research related to non-storm events like wildfires and winter storms. In addition, you will balance, reconcile, and record financial transactions while performing detailed reconciliations for bank and suspense accounts. This position provides exposure to our accounting system, reinsurance system, and an ability to learn more technical skills in Excel such as Power Query. Our internship program holds an 80/10/10 approach, meaning that 80% of your work time will involve performing tasks or working on projects within your hired work area. Another 10% of the time, you will be exposed to learning in other areas within your assigned division to get more corporate experience. Then, the final 10% will be spent in shared experiences across the organization, where you will get to really learn about our culture and work environment.

Requirements

  • Be a junior/senior working towards a bachelor’s degree in the field of Accounting, or Finance.
  • Ability to work full-time (8am-4:30pm M-F) during summer 2026, in-person at our Home Office in West Des Moines, IA.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Have strong communication skills, sense of initiative and teamwork.
  • Have a strong attention to detail and good organizational skills.
  • Must possess good problem-solving skills.
  • Experienced in Microsoft Excel.
  • At this time, we are not considering candidates that need any type of immigration sponsorship now or in the future, such as additional or permanent work authorization.
