About The Position

Under the leadership of the Director, Patient Registration, the PBX Operator is an active member of the Patient Registration team that delivers patient registration services and support that is consistent with the strategic vision, goals, philosophy and direction of Patient Registration and CRHS. The PBX Operator operates CRHS’s private business exchange (PBX) switchboard to answer and forward incoming calls, direct outgoing calls and initiate pagers. The PBX Operator greets and screens visitors and guests, and releases authorized patient information. The Operator maintains and operates CRHS’s alarm control panels and activates proper alarms, pages and warning broadcasts.

Requirements

  • Requires an elementary school education. A high school diploma or a GED state certification is preferred.
  • Requires up to one month of on-the- job work-related experience to become familiar with CRHS’s telecommunication and paging systems, telephone directory and communication-related policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and directs incoming and outgoing calls efficiently and politely and uses the CRHS directory to connect callers.
  • Actives the paging system for disaster and emergency coded pages and alerts Administrative staff, with clarity and in a calm manner, using correct hospital procedures.
  • Maintains and operates CRHS’s alarm control panels and paging systems, and activates proper alarm pages and warning broadcasts for the medical staff and hospital personnel according to established hospital policies and procedures.
  • Greets and screens visitors and guests and releases authorized patient information.
  • Connects patients and visitors for all operator-assisted long distance and third party calls and ensures call charges are correctly charged to the originator.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of emergency procedures and disaster plan contacts. Implements any emergency plan quickly and according to policy.
  • Provides backup for Registration and Collections and accepts payments on accounts as requested.
  • Maintains CRHS’s petty cash fund and provides refunds for the vending machines.
  • Distributes the patient census each day and enters returned mail in the system.
  • Complies with all CRHS privacy policies and procedures including those implementing the HIPAA Privacy rule.
  • Attends in-service training, education programs and meetings as required or directed.
  • Adheres to established CRHS and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
