About The Position

PBX operator responds to incoming calls in a timely manner and directs caller to appropriate destination providing a smooth, clear and professionally courteous communication practice.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent general clerical experience or one year operating a telephone switchboard.
  • Three years of experience may substitute for the required education.

Nice To Haves

  • Typing skills and familiarity with word processing applications.

Responsibilities

  • Corrects and updates posted information as needed.
  • Assists with the maintenance of directories and on-call list, etc.
  • Accurately utilizes the features of the PBX consoles, headsets, telephones and other related equipment.
  • Assist with maintaining cleanliness, safety and security of the PBX area.
  • Maintains confidentiality, security and integrity of patient and organizational data.
  • Ensures release of information is consistent with all hospital policies.
  • Answers multiple incoming telephone lines using proper phone etiquette.
  • Obtains necessary information and transfers calls to correct extensions.
  • Provides information to callers as appropriate.
  • Performs overhead paging.
  • Monitors all alarms located in PBX and notifies appropriate personnel as required.
  • Responds quickly and accurately to disaster and emergency situations as required, remaining calm.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Completes inservices and returns in a timely fashion.
  • Completes annual education requirements.
  • Attends annual review and department inservices, as scheduled.
  • Attends staff meetings, reads and returns all monthly staff meeting minutes.
  • Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and adherence to the HMHD Compliance Plan.
  • Conduct reflects HMHD's values and a commitment to HMHD's Code of Conduct.
  • Attends the required corporate integrity and compliance training and education programs.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in understanding the materials presented during the corporate integrity and compliance training and education program.
  • Complies with all HIPAA standards.
