The PBX Operator is responsible for ensuring efficient communication within, to and from the hospital in an attentive, courteous and efficient manner and according to standard operating procedure.   • Cheerfully greet and assist external and internal callers on multiple incoming telephone lines.
  • Provide information/phone numbers to callers as requested or make sufficient inquiries necessary to refer the caller to the appropriate hospital personnel or department.
  • Execute overhead paging for authorized reasons when requested to do so by the appropriate staff.
  • Understand hospital emergency codes and alarms and the effect they have on patient care and safety, and coordinate emergency code responses assuring the proper personnel are notified.
  • Monitor all alarms located in PBX and notify appropriate personnel as required.
  • Assist with updating the facility, phone directories and on-call lists.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience operating a switchboard or as a receptionist with multiple line phone responsibility.
  • Multiple line phone or switchboard skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Experience with Word & Excel preferred.
  • Proven customer service skills in working with public and emergency situations.
