About The Position

The PBX Operator / Mailroom Clerk at Del Mar College is responsible for providing essential support to various departments, students, and the general public through switchboard operations and postal services. This role involves managing phone communications, processing mail, and ensuring compliance with postal regulations while maintaining efficient operations within the college's postal services.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One year related experience.
  • Knowledge of basic operational, technical, or office processes.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a switchboard and answer the phone, take messages and refer callers as appropriate.
  • Refer and screen switchboard calls and routes as appropriate, assess directories when necessary.
  • Provide information to employees and departments, place long distance calls and conference calls.
  • Report problems and equipment failures and distribute directories to departments.
  • Process outgoing mail by operating meter machines, training employees on machine operation and providing information on equipment.
  • Sort and distribute incoming mail, both printed and electronic by receiving and distributing mail, assigning mailboxes, maintaining and selling stamp inventories.
