About The Position

The person employed in this capacity will perform his/her duties under the direction of the Director of Central Dispatch. A person in this assignment is responsible for receiving incoming/routing calls to their proper destination from the Jackson Police Department main line to satisfy request(s) for service within the City of Jackson. This person is responsible for monitoring the target camera areas and relaying the information to dispatch for transmission to officers when applicable situations occur.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED with two (2) years of college with emphasis in Business/Communication preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Certification (must be obtained within six months of employment)
  • Recertification every two (2) years for (NCIC) Certification as required by FBI/TBI for the duration of employment. Chapter 1395-1-1
  • Virtual Academy On-line Courses.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • U.S. citizen.
  • Knowledge of proper telephone etiquette.
  • Skill in the use of multi-line telephone system.
  • Ability to conduct oral communication.
  • Ability to tactfully deal with others, as well as, remain calm when dealing with persons who may be upset, scared, angry or suffering other stages of emotional turmoil.
  • Knowledge of departmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of the City of Jackson organizational chart.
  • Ability to comprehend sufficiently, analyzes circumstances, and makes appropriate decisions.
  • Knowledge of the geographic area of the target cameras and City of Jackson.
  • Ability to transmit by use of the portable radio in required conditions.
  • Ability to write clear and concise.
  • Skill in the operation of all modern office practices and equipment to include computer equipment.
  • Skill in the use of computer terminal, including the use of all CAD systems.
  • Skill in the use of keyboard.
  • Ability to deal harmoniously with members of the Central Dispatch, others public safety agencies and the general public.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to cope with stressful situations.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor telephone lines associated with the PBX position.
  • Answer all incoming calls, route calls to the proper destination.
  • Operate paging system.
  • Take messages when applicable and forward to the proper contact person(s).
  • Forward email messages when necessary.
  • Forward messages via the CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) for Officers on duty.
  • Monitor Video Commander-target camera system.
  • Send notification of camera failure to the appropriate staffing.
  • Monitoring Police Channel radio for occurrence within the camera target areas.
  • Relay information via CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) System to Dispatch.
  • Make entries, modification, and clear data from NCIC.
  • Perform quality assurance and validation concerning NCIC Data Entries.
  • File NCIC Data received via the Central Records Division of the Police Department.
  • Maintain the accurate filing of the NCIC Data for accurate response times.
  • Collect mail or other deliveries that may be received.
  • Maintain the supply list for Central Dispatch Center.
  • Maintain the PBX work area and equipment in clean and working condition.
  • Operate radio as needed to forward messages to proper personnel.
  • Operate office machinery: CAD, RMS, NCIC, fax, copier, printer & radio as required.
  • Operate emergency generator equipment as associated with Central Dispatch.
  • Monitor the Hik Vision - live view camera system for access to Central Dispatch Center.
  • Perform all other duties as may be assigned by Supervisor/Director.
