About The Position

The Payroll Tax Filing Senior Analyst oversees payroll tax filing operations and notice resolution with government tax agencies. This role partners closely with clients, internal teams, and external suppliers to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant payroll tax filings. The Senior Analyst also supports process improvement initiatives, provides subject matter expertise, and serves as an escalation point for complex tax issues and compliance research.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in payroll tax filing and notice resolution.
  • 3+ years of experience with tax filing software required; MasterTax experience highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of payroll tax laws, multi-state filings, and agency requirements.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and macro development).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee administration of payroll tax filings and notice resolution for assigned clients.
  • Research and resolve payroll tax notices, including penalty and interest calculations, abatement requests, and root cause analysis.
  • Provide guidance and subject matter expertise on payroll tax compliance, filing processes, and regulatory updates.
  • Identify and communicate opportunities for process improvement and support implementation of changes.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Services Manager to review performance metrics, escalate issues, and monitor delivery quality.
  • Support new client implementations and onboarding of tax filing services.
  • Manage and coordinate work with external tax filing suppliers to ensure timely and accurate filings.
  • Compile, analyze, and report operational metrics to track performance and identify trends.
  • Conduct variance analyses and escalate issues requiring additional investigation.
  • Approve and review work checklists within tax filing systems.
  • Coordinate testing of updated interfaces and data feeds to ensure filing accuracy.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to colleagues on complex tax and compliance matters.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and internal partners to resolve tax-related issues and provide updates on ongoing operations.
  • Work under tight deadlines while maintaining high attention to detail and compliance accuracy.
