Job Summary: US Payroll is responsible for paying all US employees accurately, compliantly and timely on a bi-weekly schedule. This is achieved through use of financial controls, ethical conduct, privacy, information technology controls, governance, third parties, business process, and Sarbanes-Oxley (Sox) compliance. The Tax Analyst position is accountable for efficient and effective execution of all US payroll tax activities, including federal, state and local taxation, as well as, all required employee withholding. This role ensures compliance for payroll tax withholding, W-2 reporting, deduction withholding and earnings taxation; ensures tax compliance for remitting funds to taxing agencies, responds to interrogatives from taxing authorities and investigate any delinquent tax notices and work closely with outside tax vendor; for acquisition companies: ensures tax account closures, settle delinquent remittance requests, and ensure completeness of historical records; and supports US Payroll team by coaching others on complex tax issues and questions; provide support for tax audits, as needed. Also, as needed, execute downstream activities of payroll runs including third party and accounting posting, etc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Two years minimum in payroll tax experience, including, but not limited to, filing 941s
  • Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Lilly will not provide support for or sponsor work authorization or visas for this role, including but not limited to F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, F-1 STEM OPT, J-1, H-1B, TN, O-1, E-3, H-1B1, or L-1

Nice To Haves

  • Strong technical payroll tax, equity and accounting skills
  • Solid system aptitude, preferably with Workday Payroll
  • Strong, proven attention to detail with a customer service emphasis
  • Financial or payroll certification (CPA, CPP, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Tax Compliance Execution: Maintain full compliance with all applicable tax laws and proactively stay informed of regulatory changes impacting the company.
  • Tax Process Ownership: Identify opportunities for process improvement and ensure all related documentation is updated accordingly.
  • Business Partner Relationships: Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal Centers of Excellence, external tax vendors, and government agencies.
