About The Position

The Payroll Systems Analyst serves as the bridge between payroll operations and technology, ensuring accurate, efficient, and compliant payroll processing. This role supports and optimizes RTD’s payroll and timekeeping applications, including Workday, UKG Pro WFM, and TIES, through functional configuration, troubleshooting, testing, and data integrity oversight. This position interprets collective bargaining agreement provisions as they relate to pay, support system integrations, and partners across departments to align system capabilities with business needs. The Analyst also contributes to payroll-related projects, upgrades, and process improvements; provides guidance and support to payroll staff; and delivers user training to promote consistent, accurate, and compliant payroll practices.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible payroll experience.
  • Knowledge of payroll processing cycles, HRIS data flows, and timekeeping/pay rules.
  • Experience with timekeeping systems, work rules, and accrual logic.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, formulas, data analysis).
  • Ability to audit data, identify system issues, and resolve technical or process discrepancies.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting or configuring Workday Payroll, UKG Pro WFM, or similar payroll/timekeeping systems.
  • Experience supporting integrations or data flows (e.g., Boomi, APIs, ETL tools).
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures accurate calculation of wages, taxes, benefits, garnishments, premium pay, and collective bargaining pay provisions.
  • Interprets union contract provisions and applicable regulations affecting employee pay.
  • Serves as the functional subject matter expert and primary point of contact for payroll, timekeeping, and system-related issues.
  • Configures, maintains, and supports payroll and timekeeping systems, including Workday, UKG Pro WFM, and TIES.
  • Monitors system performance, identifies data integrity issues, and conducts root-cause analyses to resolve errors.
  • Develops, tests, and implements system changes, enhancements, integrations, and upgrades.
  • Reviews release notes, evaluates new features, and assesses impacts or optimization opportunities.
  • Builds proficiency to support and troubleshoot integrations with enterprise systems using platforms such as Boomi, ETL tools, and APIs.
  • Audits data for accuracy, identifies discrepancies, and recommends corrective actions to improve system reliability and compliance.
  • Provides functional support to payroll analysts, practitioners, and end users on system processes and issues related to Workday, UKG, and TIES.
  • Partners with HR, Finance, IT, and operational departments to align system capabilities with business needs and organizational requirements.
  • Supports the work activities of payroll clerks, providing technical guidance, support, and accuracy review for represented employee pay.
  • Communicates technical information clearly to non-technical users and assists with development and delivers training on system updates or process changes.
  • Builds effective working relationships and delivers responsive, high-quality customer service to internal partners.
  • Participates in ongoing professional development, training, and system certification programs.
