Position Summary: The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate preparation, documentation, distribution, and reconciliation of payroll for MAS. This role administers the payroll system, ensures compliance with all applicable payroll laws and regulations, and serves as a reliable resource for payroll-related questions. The Payroll Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while upholding MAS standards for confidentiality, compliance, and operational effectiveness. This position exercises independent judgment and discretion in interpreting payroll regulations, resolving complex payroll matters, and advising leadership on payroll compliance and process improvements. The Payroll Specialist serves as a subject matter expert and contributes to payroll strategy, policy development, and operational decision-making.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education & experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of direct payroll experience.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Working knowledge of payroll systems and payroll best practices.
  • Solid understanding of payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills aligned with MAS values.
  • Ability to manage high-volume workloads.
  • Adaptability to policy or system changes.
  • Commitment to accuracy and compliance.

  • Experience using Paycom software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, process, and reconcile payroll accurately and on time for all employees.
  • Review payroll calculations, including wages, bonuses, deductions, and withholdings, to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Develop, implement, and update payroll processes and procedures, and recommend improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
  • Administer and maintain the payroll system, ensuring data accuracy and system integrity.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of city, state, provincial, local, and federal payroll legislation and ensure compliance.
  • Partner with Finance and HR leadership to ensure payroll practices align with organizational strategy and risk management standards.
  • Prepare and submit required payroll tax filings and other mandatory payroll reports.
  • Coordinate payroll processing with external payroll service providers, as applicable.
  • Respond to and resolve employee inquiries regarding paychecks, deductions, and payroll reporting in a timely manner.
  • Identify payroll discrepancies or issues, escalate as appropriate, and ensure timely resolution.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records in accordance with MAS policies and legal requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits related to payroll activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
