About The Position

This role offers a dynamic opportunity to manage and optimize federal payroll operations within a high-volume, fast-paced environment. The Payroll Specialist will support payroll processing, voucher examination, and related financial management tasks while ensuring compliance with federal regulations. You will independently resolve payroll discrepancies, handle complex payroll actions, and interact with internal stakeholders to provide timely and accurate payroll services. Operating with a strong focus on accuracy and adherence to established procedures, this role plays a crucial part in maintaining operational efficiency and supporting the broader finance function. The position requires both technical proficiency and excellent communication skills, contributing directly to payroll integrity and employee satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct experience supporting federal payroll operations at a cabinet-level agency.
  • Strong knowledge of NFC systems and federal payroll regulations.
  • Proven ability to perform moderately complex payroll and financial management functions independently.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Security Clearance: Public Trust required.

Responsibilities

  • Administer federal payroll using automated systems, covering time and attendance, leave audits, retirement, allotments, and pay differentials.
  • Process complex payroll actions, including prior service costing, retirement code changes, and retirement or survivor benefit applications.
  • Research, identify, and resolve payroll discrepancies, suspense items, and related agency inquiries.
  • Respond to payroll inquiries through the ticketing system and ensure timely resolution.
  • Support audit management and follow-up activities, ensuring compliance with federal regulations and agency policies.
