About The Position

The Payroll Specialist compiles payroll data to maintain and complete payroll records for multiple states. This role involves verifying timecard data for compliance with federal and state agencies, entering data into computer files, computing wages and deductions, and ensuring the accuracy of payroll. The specialist will also review bank data for direct deposits, track leave pay, and reconcile various deductions for employees on unpaid leave. Communication is key, as the role requires responding to emails professionally and assisting with incoming calls and other administrative tasks. The position starts with an initial training period of 10-16 weeks on-site, after which it transitions to a hybrid model with some remote work allowed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two to three years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • General knowledge of Fair Labor Standards Act requirements and payroll tax standards.
  • Basic accounting principles of debits and credits.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

  • Compile payroll data such as hours worked and benefit time from Kronos and other records.
  • Verify timecard data for compliance with federal and state agencies and company policy.
  • Enter data into computer files, compute wages and deductions, and post to payroll records.
  • Review computed wages and correct any errors to ensure payroll accuracy.
  • Review bank data necessary for direct deposit completion.
  • Record data concerning employee transfers between departments.
  • Track leave pay and nontaxable wages.
  • Reconcile various weekly deductions for employees on unpaid leave.
  • Verify PTO usage in accordance with company policies.
  • Track overtime and provide weekly reports to management.
  • Compile and respond to emails in a professional manner.
  • Assist with answering incoming telephone calls, sorting mail, and filing.
  • Engage in direct interaction with employees and work on special projects.
