The Payroll Specialist I works in the payroll area of the Finance Service Center and processes time, attendance, deductions (garnishments, child support, tax liens and wage assignments) for employees. The Payroll Specialist I researches errors and makes necessary corrections. Processes manual checks and vouchers to fund deductions from employee’s checks. Ensures that employees receive checks on time and at proper locations. Payroll Specialist I Processes time worked, changes for deductions (parking, SCA and debt recovery, garnishments, tax liens and child support orders following federal, state and local regulations for employees in the time and attendance and payroll system biweekly for payroll. Calculates retroactive pay, processes sign on bonuses, commission and referral bonuses for payment. Processes payroll corrections. Makes adjustments to wages and taxes as needed. Records count of checks and direct deposits on log. Completes breakdown sheets for each company and balances gross to net. Prepares journal entries for taxes and vouchers for Accounts Payable to fund payroll withholding accounts. Maintains current distribution list for checks, direct deposits and time and attendance notifications. Provides department leaders with any checks received for overpayments and Jury Duty to deposit into payroll accounts. Assists leaders with tracking worked and paid hours reporting. Prepares checks and direct deposits for distribution. Assists with questions and requests about direct deposits, garnishments, tax liens and other questions. Assists with W-2 process. Trains employees and managers as requested. Works closely with Accounting and Financial advisors to explain and report monthly expenses
