About The Position

AFW is seeking a Payroll Specialist to assist with processing payroll for over 3,000 employees. This role involves managing multi-state payroll operations for both exempt and non-exempt employees, ensuring compliance and precision. Key responsibilities include collecting and entering time and pay data, preparing payroll adjustments, auditing records for accuracy, generating reports, transmitting payroll information, processing checks, and interpreting state and local regulations. The Payroll Specialist will be crucial in maintaining compliance across locations and ensuring timely and accurate employee payments. The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, proactive in problem-solving, and an effective communicator.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years of previous payroll processing and administrative experience required.
  • Proficient in Excel, specifically vlookup and pivot tables.
  • Must have a firm understanding of multi-state and local payroll laws and regulations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to have a flexible schedule and work all shifts, holidays, and weekends.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions accurately.
  • Capacity to effectively work independently of direct supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • (FPC) Fundamental Payroll Certification or (CPC) Certified Payroll Professional is preferred.
  • Experience with Oracle HCM is a plus!
  • Bachelor’s or associate degree in Accounting/or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Process weekly payroll using Oracle HCM, ensuring accurate wage processing and timeliness.
  • Manage data entry of all new hire information and other payroll-related data changes.
  • Assist with processing manual (out of cycle) checks as needed.
  • Assist with processing and maintaining payroll garnishments.
  • Prepare and manage import files on a regular basis, including during payroll processing cycles.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to: paychecks, tax deductions, timecard issues, and other payroll-related matters.
  • Conduct periodic audits of the payroll database and correct any discrepancies.
  • Ability to act as a liaison between HR and Payroll departments.
  • Demonstrated ability to hold information confidential with excellent judgment.
  • Participates in special projects as assigned, such as: documenting workflows, improving processes and procedures, and periodic updates to payroll-related forms.
  • Other duties to be assigned/directed by supervisor.
  • All training will be provided by AFW.
