About The Position

Payroll Specialist I The Payroll Specialist I position at Oak Harbor Freight Lines provides support to ensure timely and accurate pay and reporting for a multi-state payroll. This position is an important member of the Human Resource & Payroll team, reporting to the Director of Human Resources, with a dotted line to our Payroll Specialist II. The role is responsible for performing a variety of transactions and audits in a complex system for the accurate preparation and processing of both on and off cycle, multi-state payroll. Summary of Duties Ensures accurate and timely processing of all payroll related transactions. Performs various payroll audits to ensure data and system programming accuracy. Audits and resolves timesheet coding and pay issues regarding compensation, hours, deductions, 401k, and taxes, in coordination with managers and the HR/PR team. Proactively communicates with all levels of the company to resolve payroll related issues. Assists with various benefit related transactions that affect payroll deductions. Performs various account reconciliations on transactions. Assists with projects. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of full cycle payroll processing experience, utilizing a third party HCM system
  • Demonstrated understanding of wage and hour laws, tax laws, federal, state, local laws, and regulations affecting multi-state payroll.
  • Prior experience processing support orders, wage garnishments and writs.
  • Intermediate MS Office Suite skills, particularly Excel.
  • Keen attention to detail, with strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Proven ability to proactively identify and accurately resolve problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and self-manage competing deadlines.
  • Proven ability to work responsibly with sensitive and confidential information is essential.
  • Experience producing accurate results through teaming with others and on an individual basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Ceridian Dayforce HCM
  • Degree in finance, accounting, business, or another related field OR equivalent professional experience.
  • Previous experience with employee benefits.
  • Experience in the transportation industry, in a payroll position.
