About The Position

USC’s School of Cinematic Arts is seeking a Payroll/Personnel Coordinator I to join its Business Office. The School of Cinematic Arts is in the heart of Los Angeles, considered the entertainment capital of the world, and is one of the leading media schools in the world. Founded in collaboration with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 1929 over 85 years ago, the USC School of Cinematic Arts has fueled and mirrored the growth of entertainment as an industry and an art form. As a member of the team, the Payroll Coordinator plays a key role in the continued success of the school. The responsibilities for the position include providing administrative and payroll support for the School of Cinematic Arts. This position interacts with central payroll and personnel offices, faculty, staff, and students to facilitate the exchange of information and to assist in resolving payroll or personnel matters. The ideal candidate will have strong customer service skills with strong attention to detail. Coordinates and provides a wide variety of payroll and/or personnel services that vary in complexity for a school, division, department or facility with minimal supervision. Provides general payroll and personnel assistance to a home department unit of a school, department or facility. Interacts with central payroll and personnel offices, faculty, staff, and students to facilitate the exchange of information and to assist in resolving payroll or personnel matters. Performs some assignments that are non-routine and vary in complexity with minimal direction as needed. May act as a lead to other payroll/personnel employees with work assignments, problem resolution and/or with special projects.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education: High school or equivalent
  • Minimum Experience: 2 years
  • Minimum Field of Expertise: Skilled in payroll or personnel processing with knowledge of applicable federal, state, local laws and regulations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain accurate payroll and personnel records.

  • Preferred Educations: Bachelor’s Degree
  • Preferred Experience: 3 years
  • Preferred Field of Expertise: Skilled in payroll or personnel processing within Workday with knowledge of applicable federal, state, local laws and regulations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain accurate payroll and personnel records.
  • Knowledge of related university policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, reviews and processes a variety of payroll transactions in Workday.
  • Addresses problems and incomplete payroll and new hire paperwork with appropriate unit and assists in problem resolution.
  • Has responsibility for the research, compilation, analysis and reconciliation of payroll data for staff, faculty and student workers.
  • Produces standard and ad-hoc reports.
  • Processes and tracks late checks, processes payroll expense transfers in Kuali, overpayments, and grants access to individuals in the IVIP system.
  • Coordinates and is responsible for onboarding staff, faculty and students, ensuring pay is processed accurately and on time.
  • Enters student aid and awards
  • Completes input for Lincware applications for incoming contractors
  • Ensures paperwork and reports are complete, accurate and appropriate, processed in a timely manner, complies with payroll and personnel policies and procedures and in accordance with governmental and agency requirements.
