About The Position

The Payroll Manager at Accolade is responsible for overseeing payroll processing and operations for both the US and Canada. This role requires a hands-on leader with experience in payroll systems, particularly Workday and ADP Smart Compliance, to ensure timely and accurate payroll transactions. The Payroll Manager will manage a team, drive improvements in payroll processes, and ensure compliance with statutory requirements while fostering a positive work environment.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of progressive payroll experience in a complex corporation.
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in HR, Accounting, Business, Finance, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with processing payroll using Workday.
  • Experience managing payroll across all states and Canada.
  • 2+ years of payroll team management experience.
  • Experience with ADP Smart Compliance is a plus.
  • Excellent team building, mentoring, collaboration, and leadership abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified payroll professional (CPP) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the payroll operations team to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions.
  • Serve as the escalation point for payroll-related inquiries and discrepancies.
  • Ensure data integrity and confidentiality in payroll processing.
  • Manage payroll tax filings, audits, and reporting to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Collaborate with HRIS, People & Culture, Finance, and Legal teams to develop efficient payroll processes.
  • Identify and drive improvements in payroll systems and procedures.
  • Ensure payroll system compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Partner with HRIS team to test system and process changes impacting payroll.
  • Stay current with industry trends and changes in payroll legislation.
  • Collaborate with vendors to ensure maximum value and compliance with service level agreements.
  • Manage year-end payroll processes for the US and Canada.
  • Oversee preparation and retention of payroll records for internal controls and audits.
  • Lead, manage, and coach the payroll team.
