About The Position

Payroll Manager will oversee and supervise the organization's payroll functions, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Oversee end-to-end payroll processes of an in-house multi-state payroll including data input, calculations, and distribution of employee payments ensuring accuracy, data integrity, timeliness and compliance with all statutory law and regulations. Supervise, mentor, and support payroll staff. Conduct quarter end reconciliations to ensure Workday and ADP are in sync and tax jurisdictions are filed and paid accurately. Conduct year end reconciliation and sign off on employee W2’s. Open and close tax jurisdictions and process tax amendments as needed. Prepare detailed payroll reports—covering earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and non-taxable wages—supporting quarterly, yearly, and ad hoc reporting needs. Provide insights to leadership for strategic decision-making. Conduct regular audits of payroll processes and bonuses, ensuring compliance and identifying areas for improvement. Partner with HRIS to resolve issues, implement system updates including testing, and ensure seamless payroll execution. Oversee payroll system implementations, upgrades, and evaluations, ensuring the organization leverages the latest technology for optimal performance. Collaborate with HR, Benefits, and Compensation teams on employee changes, benefit deductions, and compensation updates. Identify opportunities to streamline payroll workflows through automation, process redesign. Lead payroll-related projects such as system implementations, process redesigns, and compliance initiatives. Coordinate and prepare internal and external audits, liaising with auditors and legal teams. Work with Finance to support payroll budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. Ensure proper cost allocation and timely reporting for month-end close and audits. Support organizational initiatives, participate in cross-functional teams, and perform other duties as assigned to support business objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive payroll management experience with a multi-state employer.
  • Proven leadership skills in supervising teams.
  • Proficient knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance standards.
  • Proficiency with HRIS and payroll systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and generate actionable insights.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building effective cross-departmental relationships.
  • High level of confidentiality and attention to detail.
  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes
  • Prior HRIS implementation experience required
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Proficient with payroll software, experience with Workday and ADP Smart Compliance
