Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of payroll experience, including managing complex, multi-entity or multi-state payroll environments
  • Strong knowledge of payroll regulations, compliance, and best practices
  • Experience with payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Workday, Paylocity, or similar platforms), including implementations or conversions
  • Proven ability to manage multiple client engagements and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience reviewing work and providing guidance to junior team members
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and senior stakeholders
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in Excel and comfort working with payroll and reporting systems

Nice To Haves

  • CPP or similar certification
  • Prior experience leading or mentoring team members
  • Experience in a professional services or public accounting environment
  • Experience in a client-facing or outsourced/consulting environment

Responsibilities

  • Lead payroll operations for a portfolio of clients, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery across multiple entities
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, advising on payroll processes, issues, and best practices
  • Oversee payroll processing, including complex scenarios such as multi-state payroll, benefits coordination, and leave management
  • Review work performed by team members and offshore support, ensuring quality and alignment with firm standards
  • Partner with clients and internal teams to improve payroll processes, systems, and controls
  • Support payroll system implementations, transitions, and optimizations across various platforms
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on engagement planning, scope, and budgeting
  • Contribute to business development efforts, including participating in prospect discussions and scoping new engagements
  • Mentor and develop team members, providing guidance, feedback, and performance coaching
  • Identify opportunities to expand services within existing client relationships
