About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to join our organisation on a 12-month fixed term contract , providing strong leadership and continuity during a critical payroll system transition. This role will stand in as the Payroll Manager throughout the implementation period, overseeing payroll operations for a predominantly blue-collar, EBA-covered and unionised workforce . You will play a key role in ensuring payroll accuracy, compliance and workforce confidence on BAU activities during the transition. This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who understands the realities of complex payroll environments and can remain calm, practical and decisive during periods of operational and system change.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Payroll Manager or Senior Payroll Lead in a blue-collar and/or unionised workforce
  • Strong hands-on experience interpreting and applying EBAs and modern awards
  • Solid understanding of Australian payroll legislation, tax, superannuation and Fair Work obligations
  • Experience managing payroll risk, underpayments and remediation in complex environments
  • A practical, resilient and detail-oriented approach
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including working with operational leaders and employee representatives
  • The ability to provide calm, confident leadership during periods of change

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end payroll operations for a large, operational workforce, ensuring accurate and timely payroll delivery
  • Act as the stand-in Payroll Manager during the payroll system implementation, providing day-to-day leadership and escalation support
  • Oversee payroll processing across multiple EBAs and/or awards, including shift work, overtime, penalties, allowances and leave accruals
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with Australian payroll legislation, industrial instruments and company policies
  • Manage payroll reconciliations, variance analysis, reporting and controls
  • Provide guidance and support on complex payroll queries
  • Partner with HR, Finance, site leaders and business-facing stakeholders to maintain trust and transparency during change
