About The Position

Under general direction of the Director of Human Resources & Payroll, the Payroll Manager ensures the efficient and effective operations of the organization's payroll function in a multi-location, and multi-state environment which includes exempt, non-exempt, and union employees. The Payroll Manager will also lead efforts to improve payroll processes, provide exceptional customer service, and maintain the accuracy and integrity of the payroll system. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, dependable, and committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, kindness, and accuracy. This role pays an annual salary of $75,000-$85,000 and is bonus eligible.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or better from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, finance, public or business administration or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of Payroll experience required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work well with all levels of management.
  • Knowledge of ADP.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of payroll processes, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local payroll tax laws, as well as wage and hour regulations.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other relevant payroll platforms.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior supervisory responsibility preferred.
  • Experience managing payroll for a large employee base (1000+ employees) is highly desirable.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee end-to-end payroll processing for a large, multi-state organization.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, and monthly payrolls.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including wage and hour laws.
  • Conduct regular audits of payroll data to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Manage tax reporting and ensure timely filing of payroll taxes and year-end tax documents (e.g., W-2s, T4s).
  • Lead and mentor the team, including training, performance management, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex payroll issues and employee inquiries.
  • Manage payroll systems (e.g., ADP, eTime, Icims, Accounting systems) and ensure integration with HRIS, benefits, and timekeeping systems.
  • Oversee system upgrades, enhancements, and troubleshooting of payroll software.
  • Drive automation and system improvements to enhance payroll accuracy and efficiency.
  • Develop and generate standard and ad hoc payroll reports for Finance, HR, and senior leadership.
  • Analyze payroll data and trends to identify improvements and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Implement new policies, procedures, and process improvements to drive consistency and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure effective communication of payroll policy changes to employees and relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with HR, Benefits, Finance, and IT teams to ensure accurate payroll inputs and reporting.
  • Serve as a liaison with external vendors and auditors for payroll-related matters.
  • Support payroll integrations and transitions during acquisitions or system migrations.
  • Address and resolve complex payroll discrepancies, garnishments, or corrections promptly and professionally.
