About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Lead with specialized expertise in multi-state tax regulations. The ideal candidate will oversee payroll operations for a diverse workforce spanning 47 states, ensuring accurate processing and compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax laws. This role requires strong analytical skills, leadership ability, and a thorough understanding of payroll systems and multi-state tax complexities. This position is located in Appleton, WI.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of payroll experience, including at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
  • Expertise in multi-state payroll tax compliance and regulations.
  • Proficiency with payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paychex, Workday) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage confidential information and handle sensitive employee issues with discretion.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the payroll team in processing bi-weekly and weekly payroll cycles for employees across multiple states and divisions.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and regulations, including withholding, reporting, and remittance requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of multi-state tax legislation, including changes in tax rates, reciprocal agreements, and nexus rules.
  • Collaborate with HR and Finance departments to ensure accurate employee records and seamless payroll operations.
  • Manage year-end processes, including W-2 preparation, tax reconciliations, and filings.
  • Resolve complex payroll and tax issues, providing guidance and support to team members and employees.
  • Oversee implementation and optimization of payroll software and systems, ensuring data integrity and security.
  • Prepare and review payroll reports for management, highlighting trends and potential compliance risks.
