About The Position

The Payroll and Benefits Specialist will lead payroll processing and benefits administration and will provide general HR and employee support. The Specialist will maintain the ADP Workforce Now system to ensure we maintain the integrity of employee data. This person will process new hire onboarding and terminations and will meet with employees to review benefits enrollment. The Specialist will provide for the accurate and timely preparation and completion of multi-state payroll administration for approximately 250 employees in Washington and Oregon. The role reports to the Director of Strategic HR in Kent WA and is an in-office role to best support our workforce. There is flexibility in the weekly hours and assigned tasks for this role.

Requirements

  • Associate degree and 3 or more years’ experience in HR, benefits or payroll administration required (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • 1-3 years’ experience using automated payroll and time and attendance system; experience with ADP Workforce Now and other ADP modules highly desirable.
  • Must have working knowledge of standard HR and payroll practices and Federal and state specific employment laws.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organization skills, and strong attention to detail are critical for success.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office – Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify areas of need, create recommended action plans, gain consensus, and reliably follow through.
  • A problem solver with the ability to analyze data, draw logical conclusions, and make sound recommendations.
  • Experience working in roles requiring sensitivity and/or discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Possess a solid working knowledge of HRIS/Payroll systems (ADP WFN preferably) to fully utilize features and ensure system performance.
  • Communicate system changes and provide training and instructions to staff.
  • Process and/or approve employee data changes and other transactions.
  • Maintain employee data integrity and electronic personnel files.
  • Responsible for processing semi-monthly payroll for 250 multi-state employees including: reviewing and adjusting timesheets; processing deductions for taxes, benefits, garnishments, and others; generating paychecks.
  • Troubleshoot issues with payroll and time and attendance.
  • Electronic transfer of payroll deducted funds to benefit vendors.
  • Prepare and submit quarterly/annual tax reports, including L&I and local taxes.
  • Support annual financial audit of payroll and 401k.
  • Stay abreast of and implement new payroll requirements and best practices.
  • Archive payroll records in accordance with retention guidelines.
  • Manage end-to-end new hire onboarding including coordination of pre-employment screenings, ADP onboarding, I-9 completion and benefit orientation.
  • Respond to employment verification, wage history requests, and unemployment claims.
  • Maintain employment law compliance posters in all company locations.
  • Act as a confidential resource for employee questions related to payroll, benefits and HR.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
