This position is one of the full-time positions located on campus in Human Resources and often assists our employees with various questions or concerns while consulting with the Director of People, Culture, and Engagement and VP, Finance & Business Operations. Responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll, core staff accounting functions, and day-to-day HR administrative support. This role serves as a key operational bridge between Finance and Human Resources, ensuring payroll integrity, financial accuracy, and consistent employee data while supporting compliance and internal controls.

  • Process bi-weekly or monthly payroll for hourly and salaried employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Administer payroll deductions, benefits, stipends, reimbursements, and special payments
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll and wage/hour regulations
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll-related employee inquiries
  • Prepare payroll reports and reconcile payroll data to the general ledger
  • Coordinate with third-party payroll providers and tax vendors
  • Coordinate with VP, Finance & Business Ops on payroll audits, filings, and year-end processes (W-2s, payroll tax reporting)
  • Perform staff accountant duties, including payroll-related journal entries, accruals, and allocations
  • Reconcile payroll, benefits, and related liability accounts monthly
  • Assist with accounts payable, employee reimbursements, and expense reporting as assigned
  • Support the month-end and year-end close processes
  • Assist with audit preparation, documentation, and financial reporting
  • Maintain strong internal controls related to payroll and personnel expenses
  • Support HR with onboarding and offboarding processes, including new hire and employment paperwork and system setup
  • Maintain employee records in HRIS and ensure data consistency and accuracy
  • Assist with benefits administration and coordination with vendors
  • Support compliance documentation, reporting, and required employee notice
  • Ensure all members of the professional community are in compliance with training requirements such as Anti-Harassment, Mandated Reporter, and Workplace Violence Prevention.
  • Assist in managing workers' compensation claims and monitoring employee leaves of absence.
  • Providing exemplary customer service to the employees of the organization on Human Resources-related matters, made in person and HR Ticketing System.
  • Respond to routine HR administrative inquiries, escalating employee relations matters as appropriate
  • Collaborate with the Director of People, Culture and Engagement to plan and budget for employee activities
  • Demonstrated experience and working knowledge in Human Resources, Payroll, and Finance, with the ability to operate effectively across all three functions
  • Strong understanding of federal and state employment laws and regulations, including leaves of absence, workers’ compensation, and wage and hour requirements
  • Proven ability to analyze information, identify issues, and apply sound judgment in resolving problems related to policies, practices, and procedures
  • Proficiency in Windows-based systems, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and business software applications; experience with Paycom strongly preferred
  • Exceptional ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, meet established deadlines, and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
  • Working knowledge of online payroll systems, including the processing of payroll and personnel transactions
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly convey complex information and explain policies and procedures to employees and stakeholders
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1-3 years relevant Human Resources experience
  • Experience working with payroll processing software
  • Ability and desire to work within the Idyllwild community, Riverside County, or commute a reasonable distance, which does not impede on-time arrival during the winter months.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid California Driver's License.
  • Pass a criminal history background check as required by California Education Code Section 44237.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field preferred
