About The Position

Bowman Consulting Group is seeking a Payroll Director to lead and direct the full payroll function, ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll and compliance with government regulations. This role involves managing payroll operations, developing procedures, and overseeing a team to deliver exceptional service while supporting the company's commitment to employee engagement and client satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • Fifteen or more years of experience handling computerized, multi-state payroll administration.
  • Three or more years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Proven experience managing payroll operations in a mid-to-large public company.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) 404 compliance.
  • Advanced Excel skills in reporting, data analysis, data manipulation, formulas, and pivot tables.
  • Strong understanding of corporate governance, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification strongly preferred.
  • Experience with UKG Pro and Deltek Vision required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct the full payroll function to ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll and applicable taxes.
  • Manage people and processes to ensure effective execution of payroll operations.
  • Review work produced by staff for quality assurance and provide oversight and direction of the payroll department.
  • Develop and implement payroll methods, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Manage communication of policy and procedures to ensure timely and accurate employee submission of payroll-related information.
  • Create ad hoc reports on earnings, taxes, and deductions as required by management.
  • Review and approve payroll deductions and direct preparation of government reports.
  • Analyze department budget to identify needs and allocate operating budget funds.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll matters and manage payroll tax issues.
