About The Position

The Payroll Assistant is responsible for providing assistance to the Payroll Director including general administrative office support such as clerical duties, filing and data input. Requirements

  • 2+ years’ experience in related field and/or position related college course work
  • Licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
  • American Red Cross
  • American Heart Association
  • American Safety & Health Institute
  • YMCA will consider qualified applicants with a criminal history pursuant to the San Diego County Fair Chance Ordinance and the California Fair Chance Act. Responsibilities

  • Assist with the execution of bi-weekly payroll functions in compliance with external regulations and internal policies for the entire organization, including: entering of data into payroll software, changing recurring earning and deductions, maintaining all changes to payroll records, tracking and entering all bonuses and maintaining all paid time off plans
  • Reviews timecards for all employees to make sure there are no errors
  • Prepares and submits payroll documents
  • Adheres to all state and federal regulations for payroll processing
  • Processes overtime payments
  • Calculate and submit pay adjustments when necessary
  • Organize, prepare and maintain confident payroll record information
  • Maintain payroll and voluntary deduction files and records
  • Generate payroll reports from financial accounting system
  • Identify and resolve payroll discrepancies
  • Provide payroll support to employees
  • Ensure confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Provide administrative support to accounting functions
  • Ability to use 10-key by touch
  • Ability to input and type repetitively for extended periods of time
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well
  • Fast learner, flexible and able to perform in a multi-task in a busy work environment
  • Must have the visual, physical and auditory ability to act swiftly in emergency situations
