About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our Human Resources Information System (HRIS) transformation project, supporting the implementation of Workday. This role will provide critical payroll expertise throughout the implementation, ensuring payroll requirements are accurately captured, validated, and integrated into the new system. This is a 12–18-month maximum-term contract, with flexibility around working arrangements, including the possibility of part-time (e.g. four days per week).

Requirements

  • Strong end-to-end payroll experience and the ability to act as a payroll SME within a project environment
  • Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, Modern Awards, and Single Touch Payroll (STP)
  • Demonstrated experience supporting payroll system implementations (Workday highly preferred)
  • Strong payroll data analysis and reconciliation capability
  • High attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with payroll, HR, and project stakeholders
  • Experience working within payroll transformation projects is required

Responsibilities

  • Acting as a payroll SME within the HRIS transformation project supporting implementation
  • Supporting payroll requirements gathering and ensuring accurate translation into system configuration
  • Participating in system testing, including functional testing and user acceptance testing
  • Assisting with payroll data validation and migration activities
  • Preparing payroll analysis and reports to support project and operational decision-making
  • Develop payroll process documentation, SOPs and user training materials
