About The Position

LEARN, Southeastern Connecticut's Regional Educational Service Center, invites candidates to apply for a full-time, twelve-month Payroll Accountant opening. General Scope of Responsibilities The Payroll Accountant will perform a variety of payroll and accounting functions in support of LEARN's member districts. Relationship within the Organization The Payroll Accountant reports to and is evaluated by LEARN's Assistant Business Director. Specific Responsibilities The job description is illustrative and not a complete itemization of all duties and responsibilities of the position.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in accounting required.
  • Two years of experience working in a payroll setting preferred.
  • Governmental experience (School / Town / Municipal Agency) preferred.
  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain a stationary position for extended periods of time to operate computer, printer, telephone and other desktop equipment.
  • Demonstrated competency in preparing, interpreting, and analyzing data in a spreadsheet environment.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work across multiple levels within an organization.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred knowledge of MUNIS and Infinite Visions.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare weekly/ bi-weekly payroll on various accounting systems.
  • Prepare appropriate reports and bi-weekly submittals such as Connecticut Teachers' Retirement (TRB), Union dues, payroll deduction reports, etc.
  • Prepare and send bi-weekly and monthly disbursements such as medical payments, H.S.A. payments, etc.
  • Prepare and submit quarterly 941 filings as well as annual W2s.
  • Generate payroll reports as required.
  • Assist with routine operations of the business office including journal entries, bank deposits, cash transfers, bank reconciliations, and budget transfers.
  • Assist with annual requests from the auditing firm (e.g., payroll journals, timesheets).
  • Participate in MUNIS/Infinite Vision user groups, CASBO conferences, and other relevant trainings.
  • Maintain documentation of key policies and procedures as well as recommendations for enhanced controls.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all member districts.
  • Perform other duties as appropriately assigned.
