About The Position

Due to growth, we are adding a Payroll Accountant to our team. The Payroll Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing payroll functions to ensure employees are paid accurately and on time. This role includes processing payroll for employees, maintaining payroll records, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. The Payroll Accountant also reconciles payroll accounts, prepares payroll reports. Strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and knowledge of payroll systems are essential for success in this position. The Payroll Accountant works in tandem with their payroll counterparts and Human Resources. The role ensures that employee pay is processed correctly, payroll expenses are recorded accurately in the general ledger, and payroll tax and benefit obligations are met on time. Requirements

  • Associate’s in Accounting required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 3 years’ experience in payroll processing, preferably in a medium-to-large multi-state organization, required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, and relevant compliance frameworks required.
  • Remote position the ideal candidate will be in CST or EST time zone.
  • Advanced proficiency with payroll and accounting software (e.g., ADP, Paychex, SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms) required.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other reporting tools required.

Responsibilities

  • Administering end-to-end payroll processing for salaried and hourly employees, ensuring strict accuracy in earnings, deductions, and net pay calculations.
  • Review and validate timekeeping records, overtime, bonuses, and deductions.
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure proper documentation of employee changes (new hires, terminations, promotions, etc.).
  • Accurately calculate and process payroll adjustments, including but not limited to bonuses, commissions, retroactive pay, deductions, garnishments, leave of absence and benefit withholdings.
  • Preparing and filing all relevant payroll tax returns, payments, and statutory reports as required by federal, state, and local authorities.
  • Prepare payroll related journal entries to ensure all payroll elements are accurately recorded in the general ledger.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations of payroll related GL accounts.
  • Work with state agencies on registrations and various tax notices.
  • Respond to associate payroll inquiries and other stakeholders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Partner with Human Resources and Benefits teams to reconcile payroll with benefits enrollments and deductions.
  • Collaborating proactively with Human Resources, Finance, and external auditors to resolve complex payroll issues and support audits or compliance reviews.
  • Conducting regular internal reviews and staying current with changes to tax legislation, wage laws, and best practices within payroll administration
  • Support year-end payroll activities, including W-2 and other tax filings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
