About The Position

The Payroll Accountant position is part of the Human Resources department and reports to the Human Resources Manager. This non-exempt role is located at the corporate office in Modesto, CA, and involves managing payroll processes for both union and non-union employees. The position requires a strong understanding of payroll compliance and the ability to work with various payroll software systems.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid California driver’s license.
• 3+ years of full cycle payroll experience.
• Strong understanding of certified payroll and prevailing wage compliance.
• Proficiency with payroll software (e.g., QuickBooks, ADP, Paycom, or similar).
• Experience with full-charge bookkeeping is highly preferred.
• Advanced computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and submit Certified Payroll Reports.
• Prepare weekly payroll for union and non-union employees accurately and on time.
• Run and analyze various payroll reports.
• Prepare and post weekly/monthly payroll journal entries.
• Prepare monthly union transmittals and check requests.
• Update union wage rates according to union contracts.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
• Complete verifications of employment as needed.
• Heavy use of Excel, Microsoft AX, and Paycom.
• General filing and data entry in accounting and HR/Payroll software.
• Maintain payroll documents.
• Maintain employee earning/deduction records.
• Assist with EDD claims.
• Collaborate with HR and management to resolve payroll discrepancies.
• Assist accounting with bookkeeping tasks such as general ledger maintenance and reconciliation.
• Assist with bookkeeping for small companies.
• Perform periodic and annual duties as directed by HR Manager: such as assisting with audits.
• Assist with other projects as needed.
• Observe all safety procedures and use proper PPE.
